Whew! Day #7 here. So I tried to write a different way. This time I did research, plotted, planned and schemed and tried to follow the flagship hub guideline...damn that was hard....

I'm not sure if I can do that every time but it was definately a way to challenge myself to higher quality and better content. Let me know if you think I succeeded and should continue this way or if I aught to give it up and go back to writting fluff. smile

Thank you! I'm kind of nervous since I put a lot of effort into it, feel like it's my baby so I want to make sure it goes well. smile I think I'm going to try to write to this guideline going forward, but I may skip the sources next time (that was kind of a pain).

Also my metrics say 1415 words; damn! I should have written in word first to see how many words I had before writing it on HubPages...missed that 1500 word target. sad

How do you do this, KCC?  I am doing all I can to publish one per day.  Granted, mine are unusually long.  I think I get into this perfection mode and get wrapped up in additional research, etc...  I don't know.  How do people belt them out so quickly?

      1. KCC Big Country profile image74
KCC Big Countryposted 16 years agoin reply to this

I think the secret for me is to brainstorm ideas.  Create the titles and set them up with categories and get them ready.  Then each time I'm online, I work a bit on each one that I feel inspired to work on.  I may work on one for 10 minutes, get bored with it and stop and start on another.  Once I get several close to being finished, I push and finish them.  I have about 10 started now that I will work on each night.  A paragraph at a time.

You may be overthinking it, but that just means you're always going to be producing quality hubs.  Don't let the time issue bog you down.  Let yourself get into the creative flow and excitement.  Write about stuff that is fun for you to write about so that the research is fun and goes quicker.  It's about getting into your own flow.

        1. Richard Ring profile image60
Richard Ringposted 16 years agoin reply to this

That's how I write. I sit down and think about what's on my mind and try to relate it to my niche, then I just kind of let my brain go nuts and I end up with a topic after a few minutes. Sometimes I start on one way and then the more I think about it it goes completely another direction I never intended to sit down and write about.

For example, my thought process on my latest hub went like this.

          Login to gmail.
          Look at my Hub Ideas
          See Japanese Festivals
Think about the next upcoming festival Obon
          Think about what Obon is
Look at Wikipedia on Obon for a refresher
Think about what it means to celebrate (honoring ancestors)
Then think about when I last celebrated Obon
          Thought about cemetaries
          then thought about grave stones
          then thought about death
and then thought about my ex-wife's grandfather
then remembered my time at a funeral
and then I had my idea on what to write....

It takes awhile but I am always inspired to write when I am supposed too; if I have nothing I just walk away and come back later. No need to force it....

Thanks for the advice, KCC.  I'm aiming to get into my own flow.  Good tips.  You are so right about the overthinking it part.

My hubs are longer and take a while to write. I'm pushing myself on the challenge but the output is slow-going too. I'm very excited because the hub I've been working on for almost a month is coming together at last with photo permissions from 4 different people who all want the links to the hub. I think this means linkbacks for me and an automatic audience for my topic. I'll be mysterious on that until I wrap that one up.

So I've also been bustin my chops against a series of Arizona Road Trip hubs, and overall, I like the result! Here's what I got.

Arizona Road Trip: Tuzigoot National Monument

Arizona Road Trip: Montezuma's Well and Verde Valley Petroglyph Site

Jerome Arizona Road Trip: Ghost Town, Mining, and Art

Kudos to my fellow Hubbers! You don't disappoint!

    I think this might help:

    1. Click on the Hubtivity Link from the HubPages menu bar.
    2. Select Forum Posts on the Settings box, then click the preferences button. Select In topics that you posted on, and de-select the third option. (You'll see what I mean)

Now you should be able to click on Hubtivity from time to time and see what others are doing. It isn't the same as an email, but you don't have to navigate through the forums.

Maybe darkside could set up an RSS feed for this forum? Then those who want to follow could do that?

    Cheers and good luck!
